Re: New build for me...
I will keep you up informed. So far it has been doing really well. 2 hour runs have been reduced to a minute or two. The difference is pretty staggering. Even times for scans to process has gone from minutes to instantaneous. I'm in nerd heaven.
Re: New build for me...
I know what you mean, the glasses are a real pain. They make everything pop out but are difficult to were for extended periods. Your setup is fantastic.

Re: New build for me...
OK Savage, it is time to either mod your new build some more or OC it. This thread has not had anything for a few days now. We need some excitement.
By the way, my Sata 6 board also gave me problems so I moved the SSD and connected it direct.

Re: New build for me...
I need another week to get caught up an work and also for the control board replacement to get here from Koolance. That should be here Tuesday. I want to make sure I can properly monitor temps and flow before I go too crazy. Plus I have to read a little more on the video card stuff. It can't be as easy as moving a slider bar in EVGA Precision, can it? I mean, that isn't all that exciting. As far as other mods, what did you have in mind?
Corsair also got back to me regarding my hot swap bay board. I included pictures of the board as well as my direct hook-up and screen shot of the drives being recognized. They are just sending out a new board. No real problem at all. They are being cool. That should be here later this week as well. According to the email from JackFlash, it was mailed on Friday. I hope it works...really want to be able to get the hot swap bays working as they were intended.
I don't plan on doing any more upgrades unless I decide to play some PC games on it. If I do, I will likely add a third 580 to the mix and have a pair running in SLI and a third powering the two wing monitors. I have to be honest though, I really don't think it is truly that necessary. I've been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the game looks amazing with a single card.

Re: New build for me...
you only need a 3rd card for running all 3 monitors as one screen. you should be running SLI now LOL it will still do what you want just give you better FPS.

Re: New build for me...
It is my understanding that if I run them in SLI I will be limited to two monitors. That isn't an option. The third monitor while working has already proven to be something that I am not willing to give up EVER AGAIN.

Re: New build for me...
Hmmmm I think you should be able to, its just a matter of setting it up in the NVIDIA CP as far as I know.

Re: New build for me...
From everything I have read, when you use two cards in SLI, you are limited to two monitors. If you use three cards in SLI, you can use a third monitor, but it is going to be used for an extended view of a single window (or wider view of the game) and not for a true third monitor.

Re: New build for me...
And in case any one ever reads this, running the game across multiple monitors will require the monitors to be identical in size, resolution and refresh rate with nividia cards.
Re: New build for me...
Yup thats the down fall to NVIDIA cards, AMD doesn't care about any of that jazz.

Re: New build for me...
I'm not so sure it's that AMD doesn't care or if it is that AMD figured out a better way to handle the integration of multiple monitors than Nividia and doesn't penalize customers as part of their business model.
Re: New build for me...
So have you ordered another card for the setup?

Re: New build for me...
no...it will be a little while. Going to let the funds recover, do some overclocking and get caught up with work. I played around with over clocking the VC's this weekend with EVGA Precision. It is really easy to do with that tool, but you revert back to default settings after a reboot. I guess that's what you want in case you set to something that you can't handle. I was able to improve the 3DMark11 score a little. went from a 3800 to a 3809. I wasn't all that impressed to be honest. I went through each tweak and was all "meh" (gamer talk for that was a lot of effing around for such a little result...WTF?). I'll keep trying...
Re: New build for me...
Check out Jakes review on PureOC for the 580's they should clock higher than that.

Re: New build for me...
Well the pump and control boards arrived from Koolance. The pump is in and was instantly quiet (no real change as the spare that I bought was as well). It will be nice to have a spare pump.
On to the control board...I'll start off by saying all is working. I'll also say that the drivers for the board are the most sensitive drivers ever known to man or computer. I can not get my machine to recognize the board from any rear USB port on the mother board. It will only recognize it on the very front case USB ports or if I unplug those from the MB and plug it in direct to the MB. So I basically have to chose between my front USB ports or my Koolance Control Board. As nice as it is, this is kind of craptastic. It may not be a big deal to some, but I'm thinking that $150 control board should just work and if it isn't going to work, they should put a disclaimer that a preliminary date needs to be arranged with your rig and their board is advised because their board is a bit of a prude and may not share her information with just any piece of hardware.
I'm frustrated at this point, so I'm just going to let it go, but I'm still not happy. If I knew that I was going to go through this much grief getting the control board to work, I would have most certainly gone a different route. Having said all of that, the software is pretty "kool". I can monitor all of my temperature probes, two flow meters, pumps, and fans (if I used their fans). I set it up to give me audible alarms and even shut down my system should a pump stop and flow get below a certain level or temps go higher than a certain level. So it is nice, I just wish it was a simple plug and play operation as they claim.

Re: New build for me...

Re: New build for me...
I have contacted them...all they want to tell me is that I may have to reinstall windows or reformat the drive windows is on. I asked them if they felt the least bit guilty telling customers that and the support person stuck to the script and said that I was the only person to have problems of this nature. I call bullshit. The first board was "defective", they replaced it and the replacement board only works in certain cased with certain USB plugs. I am willing to bet the first board was fine. I never tried to plug it into the internal USB. They have a driver issue and don't want to properly address it in my opinion.
Re: New build for me...
Sorry to here that. It's a shame that company's just seem to not give a damn anymore...
