Re: New build for me...
No that actually makes me feel better. Thanks. Everywhere I have read it sounds like water cooling ram is a huge waste of money. What do you think? As it sits now, it would cost me another $100. I could care less about the cost, I do care about having to drain a loop and redo everything to add a cosmetic block block because I can't past two fans that may or may not actually look bad. So what do you think people? Add the ram block or not? I honestly am asking your opinion. I'm really torn here...am I taking it too far just to do it or what?
Re: New build for me...
Savage, I think the question is when if ever will the wife let ya spend this kind of dough on a computer again? If this is gonna be the only really cool build you'll ever do then go all out with everything ya can think of and add as much bling as you the user can stand too look at.
The more blocks and goodies you add to the loop or loops the more difficult it will be to drain and clean and it will also take longer and be more difficult to fill and then get all the air bubbles out.
I think what I am trying to say is if the wife is alright with it, Good God man build it!!! LOL :Nananana:

Re: New build for me...
Putting ram under water is a waste of money Savage, might as well wipe your arse with a 50 dollar bill, IMO but if it is just the look you want then do it but I can think of better ways to improve performance than that.

Very, very nice Duff. Gee, didn't you just do a review on that fan controller? :yourock:

Wow...that is really sharp duff! I've always liked that style of case...very nice indeed.
And I realize that cooling the ram is unnecessary...I've said that over and over in my mind. It is more me despising the look of those two fans.

Re: New build for me...
Well you always have the option to use the MIPS cooler as well as EK's Version which take LED's with the plexi top if you want to dress it up of coarse you could just leave the fans off all together there not needed either.

Stupid question duff...will your review be posted here or linked to here so I can read it? Also, what is the time frame for when it will be posted? I'm not trying to push, just eager to read it!

It depends on the review cue, when they come up I can't give an exact date because I just don't know right now I'm working on the summary but I should have it uploaded today at some point.

Re: New build for me...
Thank you...I'll check reviews out. I'll keep an eye out for the new build as well. Looking forward to reading it. Do you get to keep any of the gear or are you a volunteer reviewer where you have to purchase the items you review?
I ended up ordering the mipps. I don't want any acrylic in my loops. I have read a lot of complaints of cracking so it turned me off. Obviously as this is my first liquid cooled build, I don't have experience to back that up, but it did make sense. I did like the look the look of the EK ram block more, just didn't want the acrylic top. I'm not certain that I will use the ram block or just leave the stock heat sinks, but I definitely don't like the twin fans. I can't explain it...I just think it looks weird in a full blown double loop system to have two fans blowing on your ram. I think it is a contradiction in the intent of the build. I hope that makes sense. I did go with the EK VGA blocks and back plates.

Re: New build for me...
I keep everything they send me for review, I never have to buy anything but in this instance I wanted the compression fittings and Black tubing so I picked it up for my personal gain. EK makes great blocks my personal favorite, I have also heard about acrylic cracking as well, I tend to buy what looks good to me and just get it and try it, I think if it were a big issue they wouldn't make them anymore we just tend to hear about the ones that break more often than the others that don't. As for the fans for your ram I get it LOL your not alone.

Re: New build for me...
Not much progress today, but some. The new USB 3.0 front panel came today from Corsair. Here is what comes in the box:
Here is a shot of it installed:
Installation is no different than the original kit, but it looks like Corsair plans on you having to plug the USB 3.0 cables into the back of the M/B on the rear of the case exterior (like any other peripheral). There is an adapter included (right side of the first pic) that doesn't sport the familiar blue usb colors signifying usb 3.0 to connect to the mother board directly, but I'll try it out. Maybe Bob can shed some light on this as I know he has already installed his kit on an actual working rig.
Tomorrow is some parts from Frozen, Thursday newegg delivers some goodies and Friday is Koolance delivery day. Look for more updates then.

Re: New build for me...
So a few parts showed up from FrozenCPU this morning. If anyone cares, so far they have been extremely fast with packing and shipping orders so far.
Some cables extensions and the NZXT light kit (had to have this)...
Mipps RAM block
A couple of additional fans for the bottom radiator and some EK blocks for the cards.
Contents of the EK GTX 580 blocks package.
Inside surface of block
Exterior of the block
Tomorrow...boards, cards, rams, drives and stuff from newegg.
back plates...drool.

Re: New build for me...
Well I couldn't do much today other than sleeve the rest of the fans, install the additional fans on the bottom radiator and finish up some misc. sleeving. I'm caught up again with what I can do today.
I'm really happy I decided to flip the radiator. I think it will make draining the system much easier and the additional fans can't hurt a thing. I know I will have a little bit of sleeving to do on the pumps. I am running dangerously close on materials in that department. I'll be pissed if I have to order more of that...it's so cheap and the shipping will be expensive. I'll likely have to wait to see if I need other supplies. I'm not paying $8 to ship me $5 worth of sleeve material.
