My Freezone FZ1000 Empty My Freezone FZ1000

Post by Vinman Sat Jul 03, 2010 11:54 am

My pump went out some time ago as some of you already know, so for a quick fix I replaced it with a CoolMaster and decided when I had the money I would replace the pump and put it back in I have been quite pleased with the CoolMaster for air it preforms pretty good with its intake and exhaust fans, but its big and bulky and dosent come close to cooling as well as the freezone, well got some cash from the kids for fathers day so decided I would mod the unit and purchased a XSPC single 5.25 pump/reservoir which I will mount in one of my bays its a nice well built clear acrylic tank which came with the necessary hardware and barbs for a clean install, I also needed to purchase/select the proper barb size to accommodate the existing system so along with my purchase I ordered the G1/4 tread 3/8" ID barbs well come to find out the system has 1/4" ID not 3/8" barbs so my project is now on hold till I can locate some place locally that has the 1/4" barbs with correct tread dia. I'm hoping maybe one of the local hardware stores will have what I need so I can get this done over the weekend, and when its done I will post some pics for you guys.

That sounds like a great little project Vinman. I really like the whole idea of custom systems. But as your pointing out there is an awful lot to take into consideration when doing this. Everything needs to be tight and fit well as your asking for trouble. Mainly the reason i stayed with sealed unit in the H50.

Fingers crossed you can locate them soon enough Vinny , really looking forward to seeing how you have done this my friend.

I will add the install did not go with out a couple of snags, I decided to use the upper bay for the Reservoir and made the lines long enough so I could slide the tank out for easy filling as needed, had to remove one of my 5 DVD drives I removed the pioneer 215D which I never liked, and also my benq 1655 which I replaced with a new drive my nephew gave me a Samsung SH S202 writemaster 20X with light scribe. I could not get my system to boot up after install, went in to bios checked my boot order went in trying different things finally got it to boot but kept getting a hardware error, the system would not see my two IDE drives after pulling my hair out for over an hour I removed the Samsung and Bam boot/hardware error gone issue solved, the drive was bad right out of the box, so I put my trusty BenQ back in its place. the other issue which pissed me off even more is the mounting holes for the rails on the tank there are only two. They are pre-drilled and are the upper two holes, if you picture the side of your DVD drive for instance you have two sets of holes upper and lower well my rails mount on the lower two the holes on the tank are the upper two so cant use the rails it just sits in there loose I slid the two rails in along side anyways two keep the tank in place and from moving side to side

hope this comes out right as far as the order of the pic's if not I don't have a clue how to fix it LOL
the first pic so you know was me bleeding off the air on the tank I did not have my camera when I had it torn down sorry! but all is well that ends well you have to excuse the spaghetti as I was just concerned with getting it back up and running I will go back at a later date and clean that up I installed some filter material on the door to keep out the dust while letting in air which works great the system is running great actually better then before and holding temps very well I'm a happy camper

it took some time to do and I did get all the air out of the system On my next build I am going to replace the case its getting old!
My temps have been staying really consistent see below! I can get them lower if I need to but happy with it as it stands.

Looks good Vinny drop the temps as low as they will go it is better for the chips over the long run, mine at idle are a 6C.

I often wondered if running the components cooler than normal was good for them or not. I know that deisel and other internal combustion engines have normal operating temperatures and running then hotter or cooler is not a good thing in most cases.

Looks like a sweet setup vinny. Thanks for sharing it with us! smile

What about over clocking that puppy vinny? That chip should do 3.8 with out too much mucking about with it. And get yourself some good monitoring software. The AI Suite that comes with the ASUS boards is pretty poor quality and usually off by a fair bit.

Try Core Temp or my favorite Everest Utilitise.

Looks like a really well machined solid block Vinny. Should make a hell of a difference. As long as the pump can handle the pressure of it as well.

My Apogee block came in today and its awesome! I will be putting it in over the next couple of days, I have to remove the MB again to attach it and will take some better pic's of the install from start to finish,
And while I am at it do some cable management to try and cleanup that mess. lol!

Well got it done and its running great its already dropped several
degrees from were the old block temps were my skills at cable management
suck but what the hey I need to get some sleeves for the ones off of
the freezone unit this was before I bleed off all the air the apogee
comes real close to the radiator unlike the stock block which had the
barbs on the side of the block versus these which run left to right
across the block and just barely cleared it! I also replaced the plastic
barbs with brass ones, but I'm a happy camper now to learn how to OC
this bad boy! lol!My Freezone FZ1000 Rolleyes1

This was a very easy mod and other then having to remove the mother board from the tray to secure the new water block,it was fast and went very smoothly, bleeding off the air from the system went especially well as the tank is in the upper bay and air rises to the top and out the fill hole so all I had to do was continue to add more fluid till it was all purged! Also The coolant I used is called hy-per-lube super coolant comes in 16 fluid Oz bottle at your local auto parts www.hyperlube.com
works as good or better then whats available for water cooling units at half the price!
