ASUS G60VX Gaming laptop

Post by hiro1030 on Tue Oct 26, 2010 7:59 am

Hi everyone! :hello:

I picked up an ASUS G60VX gaming laptop about two months ago. This model was released about 10 months ago, so the components are from the previous generation.

Specs:

Core 2 Duo P7450
4GB RAM
Seagate 320GB 7200rpm HDD
NVIDIA GTX260M video card

It's a solid laptop and is totally capable of doing what I do with this laptop. I'm very pleased with it.

However, the HDD failed on me. So, I decided to upgrade some of the components.

This laptop has two HDD bays.

I put a 64GB Kingston SSD for the OS into the first bay and a 320GB WD Scorpio Black for data into the second bay.

I also bought a 60GB Vertex 2, but that was defective and I'm waiting for a new replacement. But, that's another story.

And then I found a pretty decent deal of the Core 2 Duo T9900, so I decided to go for it.

I used the Arctic Silver 5 and now it's running 15C lower than the original P7450.

PC Wizard thinks it's a Core 2 Extreme X9100. It's basically the same chip, but T9900 has better stepping and the lower TDP.

Anyway, I'm very pleased with those upgrade. The boot up time is also decent too.

Thanks.

Very nicely done you don't see to many laptops getting a kick in the pants most people just replace them, great work.

Nice laptop and upgrade hiro!
Tell me on the ASUS laptops do you get a full bios like when buying a ASUS motherboard for a desktop or are the Bios setting very limited like buying most pre-configured desktops such as HP, Dell, Acer...

nice to have ya join us and stop by the daily thread when ya get a chance. we can start comparing weather as we did a few years ago at LGSI. smile:

Hey Joel!

Yea, the BIOS setting is quite limited. I can still overclock my CPU from 3.06Ghz to 3.3GHz using the ASUS utility or even a bit higher using a third party application. But, I think 3.06GHz is good enough for a laptop.

Thanks hiro, I figured it would be pretty limited.
