Thursday (ooops Friday) August 20th, 2010
Hey folks coffee is ready for the pouring. And I am gonna need alot more today...
I'll be sort of absent today and maybe tomorrow. I had another OCZ Vertex drive go south on me last night. 4 drives since last December and I am now pissed!!!
The only thing I can figure is that my power supply is spiking on shutdown sometimes and blowing drives... i also need to find a data recovery service for the drives as there is some info I just have to get back...
Hope your all having a better day than me... :(:

Good Morning Joel, thanks for the coffee. I know that you are north of us but at midnight last night it changed from Thursday to Friday when it went from the 19th to the 20th. So I guess you are having a bad day.
I'm really sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the OCZ Vertex drives, especialy since I just switched out the Kingston 30G for the Vertex 60G for my OS. I will be interested in what you determine. Are there any tools for testing the SSD or do you use the same tools as for a regular HD?
Good luck getting your data back. If you need the name of a place I know someone who had it done last year and I can try to get the name for you.

Thanks Bob but I really need to find a place that is local. I don't know if it is even possible as the drive is just dead. I do not think it has anything to do with OCZ as 2 drives were Barracudas. I really think it is the power supply?
Oh well nothing that about $400.00 won't fix right...

Good Morning everyone. Thanks for the coffee Joel, I'll only have one cup so you have enough left for your long day ahead.
Sorry to hear about your SSD issues Joel. Sounds like it's going to be very costly all the way around for you. :(:

I have a full cooler, so as soon as you get to it this afternoon things will be a little clearer. There is enough for all.

good morning everyone, Thanks for the coffee Joel, sorry to hear the drives dying I think mine is on the way out to I turned the comp on yesterday and I got stuck in a boot loop, once I got that fixed all my drivers seem to be systematically shutting down one by one, and now MS office won't open. I have done virus scans, maleware scans and nothing is found, I'm stuck at an impass here and am not sure what I can check next.

Steve sorry to here that have you tried a windows repair? May do the trick. That doesn't sound like a hard drive problem. But it does sound like a virus or operating system problem?

Hi Joel. Looks like you'll be up & running again soon?
(I read on PUREOC you were able to get a PSU & SSD from Jake.)

Hey Steve thanks for asking but I have not even looked yet today. the important stuff was to get the hardware needed to get up and running again. Now I can take my time and put it back together over the next few hrs or days when ya look at loading everything back on... But the old PSU is out and now the new one is in so I have to start connecting all the wires and then cable management again. shouldn't be to bad as this case is designed to hide alot behind the Motherboard.
Did I mention how much I hate my wifes keyboard. This thing is awfull.
I will look into the data on Monday, but something tells me I am screwed due to 1 drive of the Raid 0 Array dieing and my understanding of Raid 0 means the data is written across both drives and I believe both would have to at least be recognized by the bios before one could ever access them again.
I hope Iam wrong but only time will tell. I will keep you posted.

Cool. At some point are you going to check out/test your old PSU to determine for sure if it caused this destruction?

Re: Thursday (ooops Friday) August 20th, 2010
Hi Steve I do not know if that is possible? Because the failure happened the same way each time and happened 4 times now within a 9 month period.
Each time it has happened the problem was not discovered till the next time the computer was started. At that time the computer would just fail to boot because one of the drives in the Array which is the boot drive would fail. Each time it was the same thing with all four drives. Deader than a dooor nail and not recognized on any system they were plugged into.
Maybe if the power supply was tested it would show a slight anomoly in the readings or maybe it would show proper but I am not risking it and just going to dispose of the PSU.

I would love to give it away as it was a very nice PSU but I am afraid that the same problem may pop up for someone else.

6 females, lucky you. I also had to live with 6 females but 2 of them were the animals. Dog and cat I mean. It was really fun when I had 2 of my girls and my wife in college at the same time, and all living at home.
Now I remember why I started drinking. :HAHA:
