Thanks George , Must agree with 4hams here. Linux has done extremely well since i last used it. I think i tried version 8 way back on an old build. It flew compared to windows but took some getting used to for know how of the settings and stuff.

Some lower powered PC's would relish an OS like this.

Absolutely right Mc But I like it on my pc which is pretty much up to date I have Windows Vista, PCLos and Ubuntu installed on mine and still plenty of room for a couple more . And I do want to let you know that it is still just a bit harder to install some programs on some distros but this Ubuntu has over two thousand programs in addition to the ones you see in the slide show , Those are the ones included with the install and again all free

Interesting to know George. I have a half finished build here lying around that " was " going to be my HTPC but decided i did not need one. Still will complete it at some stage this year though. Small build in a small case. AMD X2 dual core , 2GB ddr2 etc. Might have to see you about a linux when the time arises as its something that is worth some fun. Not intending to use it for anything massive so i can take my time to learn it.

Though when this will be completed is anyone's guess , will let you know dude. :yourock:

Thanks for all the great info on this.

Hi smile
I have my drives Raided.
Raid0 in fact.
Booting (dual) is always a problem.
I used to run from CD, but that option doesn't appear in the 64 bit.
Unless my eyes or PC or even both are playing up.

I see now zebadee there is a 64 version of many of the linux distros but I am not sure about the dual boot with raid , If you are interested though there are two options , First you can download and run any linux distro with a live cd ,So you can try it without dual booting ,Second referring to my other post is the program you can load into windows http://mobalivecd.mobatek.net/en/ which will allow you to run a linux distro in windows either way will allow you to see how easy linux is without compromising your computer. The only thing to bear in mind is both of these methods are just a tad slower than a dedicated install

Hi smile
Got the live cd to run.
But the proggy in your post wasn't any help.
Kept coming up with an error.
Running of the cd was OK, but you can't fully interact on the forum.
At least I couldn't. lol!

True zebadee some of the live cd's are a bit sketchy , But the main purpose of them is to let you see how linux works and show you the ease of Open Source and allow a few of us to escape from Microsoft's grip . I did mention about the speed difference running through windows but I did forget about those little glitches ( and there are just a few ) with the lice CD's , Sorry about that

P.S. How did you like what you did see ? , I am sure the others would like a second opinion because I know mine is just a bit prejudiced Twisted Evil :D

Hi smile
I used to use Linux when Win 95 & non raid lived in my domain.
I like it.
It is fast (under normal conditions).
Of course Ubuntu had a load of money thrown at it.
& it shows.
Definately going from strength to strength.
