Sunday
Good morning all. Finest Arabica in the pot so help yourself.
Dropped off my daughter, Tig, to school at 9am today. It will be her first camping experience as she is under canvas for the next week whilst on a surfing course with the school.
I say camping, personally I would call it Glamping ...she took an air bed, pillows and enough kit so fill the trunk of the car ..... and the teachers will be doing the catering too.
The other concern is that she doesn't have a sporting bone in her body...and she chose to go surfing? Oh well, her choice :D:

Re: Sunday
Morning guys and thanks for the coffee.
Our eldest left today for a Cottage in Quebec with a friend and her family then to Montreal for a day of shopping and should be back Friday.
grumpy, that looks like a great camp for your daughter. I always wanted to learn to surf but not any of that happening in these parts. Looks like they have some wild weather there today.
I am sure she will have a blast.
Hot hear and going to be very humid around 42 C.
You all enjoy the day!

You won't find me on the beach these days...last time I was there laying in the sun some people started throwing buckets of water on me and trying to get me back in the water.... :
Back in the day windsurfing was my thing.
EDIT: got a text message...."we've got the tent up"... I have to say that after one demonstration pitch with all concerned getting involved I was not certain.

Tig is now 12, she will be 13 in September
Photo of her standing behind her cousin about 10 months ago. Elin is about 5 months younger.
and first day of senior school taken about the same time.

Oh boy, you are going to hate the next 5 years. She is a beautiful girl and you will have your hands full keeping the boys away. :

Re: Sunday
Thanks for saying so, but I may be lucky. To date she has won a number of awards for both academic achievement and her attitude to learning.
Put this with my grumpy ways and somewhat military attitude and expectations of both my kids....... well lets just say here's hoping it all works out for the better.

Re: Sunday
My daughter turned 13 on July 14 and we had 6 of her friends here all weekend. I think you eluded to it in your comments...and it is all about the environment they grow up in (at least is a major contributing factor). My daughter is a good kid that is active in two instruments, 4.0/4.0 student, athlete, choir, all around joy to be around. Her mother should get all the credit. My daughter surrounds herself with other over achievers and all around good girls as well. I feel we did our part to get her on the path and all we have to do is keep reinforcing her already good judgement to keep going down her path. She isn't perfect and needs a major kick in the arse once in a while, but that is where I earn my stripes. The boys are following her lead as well. We are very fortunate!
Re: Sunday
Taking her strengths as different in some respects as those of your daughter, your description of things in your household is remarkably similar to ours. Tig too gravitates toward the other members of the "gifted and talented" group.
My boy is getting the idea but is naturally "a bit of a lad". he has a heart of gold though so with a bit more effort I feel we will get there.
This topic is not one that I have encountered anywhere else on the forums. That every parent is proud of their kids or will support them through thick and thin is maybe a given, but chatting about such things in public?.... Less common I think. Is it an age thing?
