Intel P67 Chipset MotherBoard Empty Intel P67 Chipset MotherBoard

Post by Harrigan46 Thu Feb 03, 2011 3:48 pm

With the recent news from intel about the P67 Chipset flaw and knowing that I'm going to have to remove my Asus P8P67 Deluxe motherboard to be replaced. As a novice I have a question!! If I replace the motherboard in April with the same model from Asus (with the P67 Intel Sata 2 fix), will it be as simple as setting up the Bios with the previous Motherboards settings then boot up the system? (Plug and Play)Or, will I have to do a Windows installation repair first booting up from Windows Cd?
Any advice is welcome!

If your using windows 7 you should be fine just to hook it up and go, if your using XP then its a complete reinstall.

When moving boot drives between different computers it should work and boot fine for any operating system so long as the bios is of the same manufacturer.

We found this out when in college they supplied us with removable hard drives so we could work at home on our computers. For some folks there was no issue but for those who's home computers had a different bios manufacturer from the computers at the college it was a no go...

Well, that depends actually, if it is Windows 7 OEM or Retail. If it was installed with the OEM disc, you likely will not get network access as the Microsoft activation process locks the OEM install to the MAC address of the NIC. I had this problem with a motherboard swap some few years back. I doubt MS has changed much in this regard.

I'm in the same boat (ASUS P6P87 EVO), but I have a retail installation disc so I should be in more of a plug and play mode than a plug and pray!

Not much help I'm sure but when I had to rma an Asus board on oem xp the change was seamless.

When I changed my "folder" from an amd board to an intel on vista retail it was just a repair and new drivers

Have not moved on 7 yet

My guess is that there will be very few issues

ya the info I posted was rather old as it was back when using NT5, 2000 Pro, 2000 Server and when XP first came out before all the silly activation bull crap.

Just replaced my Asus P8P67 Deluxe Motherboard with absolutely no issues..... Yes, windows activation is required and I was able to do it with the "Activation Online" method! A simple click of the mouse.... Windows7 automatically loaded all the new drivers needed for the new motherboard. Asus provided great customer support with the motherboard exchange!! :D:

Rigs back.... Just finished slapping it together... Will be running Memtest overnight just in case, but she is booted now and so far so good. Had to re-activate Windows... saw that one coming, still a pain. Outpost Firewall pro ticked me off a bit trying to prevent drivers from re-installing... like my USB keyboard and mouse!!! Had to reset it and go safe mode. Post back soon with a better status report.

Not running as stable as I once had it... May look into a different cooler. Gave my buddies beast back to him as Intel sent me a new one because I told them I was broke tabs on the stock one (BXXTS100H)... Don't like it... can't put it under a load without it getting too hot... May just try to reseat it and get a fresh new tube of arctic silver.... But not tonight. Just glad to have it back. Hawks/Stars in a few minutes!!!

Maybe it needs reseating. I have not even seen a TV or news on the net after the Leafs game last night... We are done for another season. 😢

Hawks choked last night too... Now their playoff hopes are in doubt again. Big game in Phoenix Sunday... they better win to have a chance at the 8 seed (just to upset the Canucks in round 1) LOL!!!

Reseated the heat sink and we seem to be in business... Still not a fan of the cooler and may look for something else.

I highly recommend and all inclosed liquid cooler like the Corsair units or coolit vantage in a push/pull configuration.
I have tested them and they work as well as ANY air cooler.

Full water cooling is too expensive for most people and more work than most people want to take on.

Good luck in the playoffs! Go Chicago!

What are those hoses made out of? Thick material?

I have read the H70 in push/pull is worth the extra cost. The hoses are a synthetic blend encapsulating metal coils. They will last a long time, won't kink, and look nice.

You do have to be careful with those hoses as they are very rigid but i have had no issue with the 2 Dominos i have or the H50. These things are almost the same price as the high end air coolers which is why i lean to the self contained water. Less bulk in the case. Cools my i7 perfectly with a 4.1 GHz overclock!

I'm going to stick with the air cooling for the time being but will get the H60 (newer) when I get back (my annual Spring Break trip south is coming up). I've read it performs between the H50 and H70.
