Tuesday

Post by grumpydaddy on Tue Apr 26, 2011 6:22 am

Good Morning to you all

Warm again today so OJ or coffee, you choose. Bacon and eggs to go with it smile

Today is a preparation day. Maximising the clocks on my rigs ready for Supercomputer week over at XS. Some of you may know that I run my machines on World Community Grid doing medical research mostly, well, from the 1st - 7th of May they have a bi-annual push aimed at getting people joining and maybe competing against each other and all for the greater good.

The system used to validate results means that starting a few days early helps to maximise output for the week so that's me for today.

Anyone want to join in? Go on give your rigs a workout for a few days :D:

If interested post up or pm me for a guide

Enjoy your Easter break? Don't you all wish you lived over here this week.... Royal wedding on Friday so it is a public holiday....wedding pah, holiday, oh yeah!!

Morning gang and thanks for the excellent breakfast grumpy!

I'll get a hold of ya this afternoon about folding. Been 5-6 years since I last looked at it.

Folding...hmm may have to look into that. Grumpy, please send me some info on how to get started and how it works.

Thanks for the excellent BACON and coffee this morning :Thankyou:

Small update. It will be a another day or two before I am able to do any new runs on the project that I am working on, but I did run the last version for fun. The result are pretty unreal. The exact same file run on the the Q9550 with 8GB of DDR2 RAM took 3 hours and 17 minutes to design. It took 5 minutes and 12 seconds on my new rig.

Both versions appeared to MAX out my RAMZ :(: The new rig has 12GB of DDR3. I'm also starting to think their is a memory leak in our proprietary software. I talked to the code monkeys about it and they basically told me that they were aware of the leak, but flat out told me they weren't sure how to fix it with out rewriting a major portion of the code (then laughed at the thought). Code monkeys confirmed that the program will chew up any available RAM while processing, but couldn't explain why.

It is a substantial improvement and instantly justified the build (not that I needed the convincing, but it really helped).

Those are some stunning results Andre mmmmm sounds like a lil 'ol dual processor MB, a couple of x5680's and maybe 192GB ram should do it to leave you with a whole lotta time on your hands (not that this one hasn't done this already)

and just think, next year all the next gen hardware will be released (Ivy Bridge)

Happy for you and your results

Thanks d00ds! I'm pretty happy about it. This project, however, can kiss my ass. It is the most complex projects I have ever seen and it involves engineers from the US, Germany and Switzerland. It's not helping at all...I'm pulling my hair out!
